How To Find the Galloway Astronomy Centre The Centre is located on the A747 towards the southern tip of the Machars peninsular. From Stranraer Take the A75 heading east. At the junction with A747 turn right and head south towards Whithorn. The GAC is 3 miles after Monreith village on the left. Distance: 30 miles From England Just after crossing the border into Scotland take J22 on the A74(M) for the A75 to Dumfries. Stay on the A75 until Newton Stewart. At the roundabout turn left onto the A714 towards Wigtown. Bypass Wigtown on the B7005 before rejoining the A714. (If you miss the turn drive through Wigtown). At Kirkinner take the A746 passing through Whithorn to where it joins the A747. Turn right onto the A747. GAC is 2 miles along the A747 on the right. Distance: 95 miles SatNav Beware If you are using SatNav avoid being taken off the A75 at Crocketford - this is a much slower route through the Galloway Forest. Also avoid the right turn to Whauphill after Wigtown. This route is mainly single track lanes. The GAC is listed on some SatNav systems. Please note that we are NOT ... 1) near Glasserton Church (as is shown in error on a locally produced map) 2) in the tiny village Glasserton itself. If you are travelling from Whithorn to us we are a mile further on than Glasserton. Please see the maps above.
